Job title: Trainee Advice & Assessment Worker
Central London
Hours: 35 hours (full time)
Salary: £28,890
At the Cardinal Hume Centre, we believe everyone should have the opportunity to live a full life, but we know that homelessness and poverty can wreck that potential. Too often homelessness at a young age is repeated and compounded in later years. Our renewed vision is to increase our focus on young people, children and their families. To value every individual, nurture their potential and help people thrive.
We are looking to recruit a Trainee Advice & Assessment Worker to be the welcoming face for clients arriving for advice and support, to access services or find an appropriate alternative source of help and advice. We are excited to offer opportunities for people looking to take their first steps into the advice sector. This role will help you learn the skills and build experience in delivering support to vulnerable people, with a particular focus on housing and welfare rights. This is an exciting role in our Assessment team that will manage and conduct an initial assessment with the client in an empathetic way and will liaise with teams across the centre and with external agencies including other NGOs and statutory bodies and refer/signpost clients to services which may be more appropriate for their needs. You will also work with the manager and other members of the team to develop service delivery and the way we interact with internal and external service providers.
Training and support offered:
• External training courses in understanding benefits, homelessness and handling challenging situations.
• You will work towards a Level 3 award in Information Advice and Guidance
• Shadowing and supervision – you will work closely with assessment and advice workers and the assessment manager to learn from practice.
• Support from housing and welfare rights specialists – you will have support from specialist advisors when conducting level 1 advice to clients on homelessness applications and universal credit applications.
We anticipate it will take a year to successfully complete your qualification and to develop your skills through practice (minimum 6 months of achieving successful outcomes with clients). Once you have completed the training programme, you will progress to an Advice and Assessment worker role (salary around 32,000 per year).
